Delgado Legacy 1.9

She watches him coming closer, her brain yelling at her to turn around and walk away…to pretend like she hadn’t seen him.  Her feet refuse to move.

Gabriel:  “Kinsley?”

Kinsley:  “Gabriel….”

Gabriel:  “I thought I’d never see you again, I woke up and…..”

Kinsley starts to panic, what if Hope walked up and saw them?

Kinsley:  “I have to go…..”

Delgado Legacy 1.8

Kinsley is wandering around looking at various books, she finally randomly selects one and heads towards a seat.

When suddenly she feels like she’s slipping backwards into her past.

The book she was holding drops from her numb fingers and hits the floor with a thud.

She closes her eyes and silently chants…..

“Don’t notice me.  Don’t notice me.  Don’t notice me.”

Willow Creek Library…….

Hope:  “Mom, I’m going to go check out the children’s books.”

Kinsley:  “Alright sweetie, don’t leave the building.”

Hope:  “Mom, this isn’t the Springs.  You can practically leave your door unlocked and nothing will happen.”

Kinsley:  “Still, don’t leave the building.”

Hope:  “Yes, mom.”

Kinsley:  “Hope, you want to go check out the area?   There is supposed to be a museum and a library and a park.  Maybe you can meet some kids and make some friends?”

Hope wasn’t really all that interested in meeting any of the local kids.  She was the poor kid in the rich area.  She has seen the movies, she knows how this works.

Pity for the rich girls that they would soon find out that Hope wasn’t an easy target.  Just because she could stand up to mean girls, didn’t mean she was in a hurry to actually meet them!

Hope:  “The library sounds fun, mom.”

Delgado Legacy 1.5

Hope had long ago stopped asking about her father, it was pointless since her mother refused to even say his name.

That didn’t mean she didn’t think about him.

A girl who didn’t know both her parents felt kind of empty inside.

Was he a bad man?  Was that why her mother never mentioned him?  Refused to talk about him?

Hearing her mother coming, she hurried to pretend like she was using the table.  She didn’t want to upset her or let her know she had never stopped thinking about this shadow father of hers.

What was his name?

What did he look like?

Hope looks around, she didn’t really love the colors but she loved the room.  It was so big and all hers!

Hope:  “I love it, mom.  Thank you.”

Kinsley:  “Do you want to talk to that animal thing?  You can even hug it and stuff.”

Hope:  “Uh…..mom….did you get me a science table?”

Kinsley:  “Of course!  I know my little brainiac needs one.  It’s out back, why don’t you go check it out while I finish unpacking my medical books?”

Kinsley watched Hope run off and smiled.  Hope was such a great kid, she never complained and always was so happy with anything her mother gave her. It made Kinsley want to give her even more.

Kinsley holds her daughter close for a moment before they head inside to check out their new home.  It was a big step up from their old home, a trailer in a low income Oasis Springs park.

Kinsley:  “Come on, baby girl.  I want to show you your room.  It’s pink and super girly.”

Hope smiles at her mother and doesn’t say a word about not wanting a super girly and pink room.  Her mom worked so hard for them, she didn’t want to make her feel disappointed.

Hope:  “My own room?  You mean we don’t need to share anymore?”

Kinsley:  “Nope, I even got you one of those animal things.  The sales lady said all the girls have them and love talking to them.”
